Pet Blood Bank Facts and Figures

  • Pet Blood Bank uk was established on 5th March 2007 and launched at Crufts that week.  The first unit of blood was dispatched on 8th March 2007.
  • We were  the first pet blood bank to be set up in the UK.
  • We are the only Pet Blood Bank Charity in the UK.
  • Between 2007 and 2010 we have had 2,723 dogs register onto the programme.
  • Every unit collected can help save up to four dogs' lives.
  • Between 2007 and 2009 we supplied 4,800 units of Plasma and Packed Red Blood Cells.
  • In 2009 we supplied 2,200 units of Plasma and Packed Red Blood Cells.
  • In 2010 we supplied 3,000 units of Plasma and Packed Red Blood Cells.
  • Dogs are blood typed for the DEA 1.1 blood group and are either positive or negative for this blood group.
  • 70% of our donors are positive blood type.
  • 30% of our donors are negative blood type.
