Amanda Graduated from Cambridge University in 1998. She undertook further clinical training at the Royal Veterinary College and the University of Pennsylvania and is Board certified in both Internal Medicine and Emergency and Critical Care. During her time as a Lecturer in Emergency and Critiical Care at the Royal Veterinary College she was heavily involved in setting up and running the first large scale in-house blood bank in the UK.
In September 2008, she took up the post of Clinical Director at Vets Now where she has responsiblity for clinical standards in emergency clinics across the UK and two referral hospitals.
She has performed many transfusions over her career and lectured widely on the topic. She is passionate about the development of transfusion medicine within the UK and the difference it can make for critically ill animals.
Ava has been working in emergency and critical care since 1986. Originally from the USA, she has worked in both the USA and Australia where transfusion medicine has been well established for many years. This experience led her to be instrumental in the formation of the Pet Blood Bank UK.
Ava has held positions in both academic and private emergency practice in the USA, Australia and the UK. She is currently a Clinical Training Specialist with Vets Now, based at the Nottingham clinic.
As an experienced emergency clinician, she is sympathetic to the needs of the general practitioner and happy to provide advice as one of the PBB's veterinary advisors.
