As well as being the Veterinary Welfare and Ethics Advisor for Pet Blood Bank, Vanessa regularly helps out as part of our Collection Team in England. Vanessa is a Veterinary Surgeon and is part of our collection team in England.
I qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1997. Since qualifying I have worked in private small animal practice and charity based veterinary hospital in Derby. I was Senior Vet Nurse at the Vets Now emergency clinic in Derby for 5 years. During my time at Vets Now I joined Pet Blood Bank to help out for 8 weeks which led to me being trained as a Phlebotomist. I am presently working part time at the Pet Blood bank as a Co-ordinator and Phlebotomist as well as part time at PDSA in Derby.
My home life consists of my husband Mark, my daughter Kathryn, 2 dogs - a Rottweiller called JJ and a small crossbreed called Dylan who are both 12years old, a cat called Lilly who I hand-reared from a few hours old and 2 Guinea Pigs, Bobby and Rosetta. We also have our 2nd child on the way which is due Christmas this year (2011). Even with a busy home and work life we find time to do field archery as a family and I enjoy lots of crafts including, watercolour painting, jewellery making, card making and lots more.
I joined Pet Blood Bank on a part time basis as a phlebotomist in 2008 after having my twins a few years before. I am a qualified Veterinary Nurse and before working for Pet Blood Bank UK I also worked as a lecturer in Animal Care. My role as a phlebotomist with Pet Blood Bank means I help run the collection sessions as various locations across the country by taking the blood donations from our fantastic doggy donors. As well as my role at Pet Blood Bank, I am a pet behaviourist and dog trainer in my spare time qualifying as a behaviourist through COAPE in 2009. I also work as a Veterinary Nurse at the Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition 2 days a week.
I have 3 dogs as part of my family, a terrier and two Hungarian Wirehaired Vizslas which I show and breed. My other hobby is horse-riding.
I joined Pet Blood Bank 2 years ago and go out on collection sessions as an Animal Care Assistant. I also help in the Lab as a Processing Assistant. I love my job, and meeting all the fantastic owners and donors. I have 5 cats at the moment; Pip (16) - a white and tortie who's finally settling down, she's a typical tortie cat(!); Zane (5) - a very sweet natured mackerel tabby who came to me as a stray; Foxy (5) - a ginger female who came to me as a stray from one of our collection sessions, who has settled in well and loves to play with the others; Chelsea (3) - a dark tortie who came from the farm where my friend keeps her horse, and is the partner in crime to Spawn (of Evil) (2), who also came as a stray from one of our collection sessions at 6 months old - he's pale ginger and very naughty - but in the best way possible! My hobbies are looking after my cats, reading (a lot!), music, films, walking, writing, and anything relating to animals.
I'm a big dog fan, and love to play with our donors when they come along. As I can't have a dog of my own, in my heart all these gorgeous dogs are mine for 5 minutes.
My name is Emma Hyman and I work as an Animal Care Assistant. I joined Pet Blood Bank in September 2010 as a Locum, then shortly after joined on a full time basis. The best thing about my job is meeting lots of lovely dogs and owners!
Before joined Pet Blood Bank I did a Foundation Degree in Animal Management and Welfare. At home I have two guinea pigs and two rabbits.
