The Role

Award-winning animal charity, Pet Blood Bank UK, is recruiting for the newly created permanent post of Veterinary Manager. Reporting to the Clinical Director, this is a home-based role that will require the role holder to travel regularly to support regionally based Collections Teams across the UK. Flexibility is crucial for this role, as weekend and evening work will be required.

Background

Pet Blood Bank UK is the only charity of its kind that provides a canine blood bank service, helping to save the lives of many loyal companions across the UK. Similar to the human blood service, donation sessions are held nationwide for large dog owners to bring along their pets to give blood. The blood is then taken to PBB’s state of the art processing centre in Loughborough where it is separated into red blood cells and plasma products, and then stored ready for despatch. Now in its 11th year, the charity has over 9,000 canine donors registered and growing at an exponential rate as media attention increases.

The Candidate

With strong organisational and managerial skills, the successful candidate will be confident in their ability to remotely manage regional teams to ensure the success of blood collections across the UK. This is a new role and will be both rewarding and challenging, demanding excellent staff management skill, coordination ability, admin management and staff rota co-ordination. The Veterinary Manager will lead and mentor a team of highly experienced professionals including veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and donor assistants.

You’ll likely be an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse or hold a veterinary qualification, with previous team management and operational experience. Recruiting new team members will be an important part of this new role and therefore experience of interviewing and appointing is necessary. A confident user of all Microsoft Office packages, the successful candidate will also have excellent communications and interpersonal skills, a proactive and enthusiastic approach and demonstrable aptitude for team management. The ability to empathise with the pet-owning public is essential. Regular travel is expected and therefore it is essential you are a car owner and hold a clean, full driving licence.
