We are currently doing all that we can to keep our service running during this unsettling and challenging time. We have a large number of additional measures in place to reduce the risk to our teams, the teams at our host venues, and all our donor owners while continuing to provide our lifesaving service to you.

We would like to make you aware of a few changes we have made in order to keep our service running.

Blood product use during the COVID-19 pandemic

Please see our guidelines on considerations for blood product usage during the coronavirus outbreak. 

Stock levels

Our stock levels continue to be challenging. The best thing you can do to support us right now is to blood type all patients to ensure positive blood is used where possible. We also ask you only order PRBC for cases so we can maintain a supply for emergencies. Plasma is always available and we continue to encourage every practice to keep a unit in stock for emergency use.

Order cut off time

To help us deal with demand, we are changing our order cut off time from 4 pm to 3 pm. Please ensure any orders for overnight delivery are with us by 3 pm at the latest.

Consumables and order quantities

In order to support all our customers, we ask that you only order what you need. On certain product lines, we will be placing limits on how many can be ordered by an individual practice or hospital. This is so we can ensure everyone has access to the products they need. If you place a large order, we will contact you to discuss this and confirm the amount we are able to dispatch.

Non-urgent orders

To protect our team, we are reducing the number of people in our distribution centre. Therefore, please can we ask that all non-emergency and overnight orders are placed via our website. Only urgent same-day orders will be accepted by phone.

Out of hours

We are continuing to offer our 24 hour out of hours service. As before, all urgent orders should be placed by calling 01509 232 222.

Advice service

We continue to offer our free advice service. Due to the challenges being faced by all vet hospitals and practices, it may take longer than normal to respond to advice queries. Please also consider using your local referral centre for advice prior to placing an order.

Blood sharing scheme

We encourage you to utilise the blood sharing scheme to see if any blood products are available locally. This helps us by ensuring that blood products are shared around before going out of date, particularly when it comes to red cells. You can use the locator on our website to find a practice close to you that stocks blood products. Please do what you can to support each other locally and share products where needed, this will help us manage our stock levels and ensure all blood is being used within its shelf life.

Invoices and payments

Our normal payment terms of 30 days continue to apply. As a charity, it really helps us when you adhere to this so we can keep our cash flow healthy and continue to support you.

Box returns 

We have temporarily stopped accepting returns of our boxes and packaging. Normally we ask these are returned to us to be reused. However, to reduce risk we are now asking you to dispose of, reuse and recycle your packaging yourself. Instructions are being included in all order boxes. We will start accepting returned boxes again as soon as possible.
