The Role
Award winning animal charity, Pet Blood Bank UK is recruiting for the position of a donor assistant. This is an exciting and rewarding part-time weekend role working with our Loughborough based Collection Team at donation sessions across the Midlands on alternate Saturday’s and Sunday’s.
As a Donor Assistant, you will be responsible for packing and returning the collection kit, travelling to and from the session with the team, helping to run the session, including holding donors whilst they donate blood, tidying and resetting the donation room in between donors, running blood tests and assisting with paperwork. You will maintain high welfare standards and ensure all owners and donors have a positive experience.
Working as part of our core team alongside a Veterinary Surgeon, Phlebotomists and Donor Assistants, you will have the opportunity to work at a variety of venues meeting up to 23 potential donors and their owners at each session.

What you’ll do
- Prepare and pack the collection session kit.
- Travel in one of Pet Blood Banks vehicles to and from collection sessions from Loughborough, sharing the driving with the collection team.
- Assist the Veterinary Surgeon and Veterinary Nurse with all donors to ensure health check, donation and post donation tasks are carried out.
- Assist with paperwork and running blood tests.
- Help to hold our donors during the donation process.
- Assist with monitoring donors throughout the donation process.
- Build a rapport with donors and their owners to ensure they feel valued and involved - provide a positive donation experience from start to finish.
- Maintain a good relationship with our host venues.
- Communicate with Pet Blood Bank staff, including your regional collection team, Regional Coordinator, Area Manager and office staff.
- Assist with and support the training of new team members and ensure all training records are completed.
- Attend events to promote Pet Blood Bank and recruit donors and volunteers.
What we need
We’re looking for someone who:
- Holds a full UK manual driving licence and is comfortable driving different vehicles with passengers.
- Has the ability to problem solve, is proactive, has good organisation skills, and attention to detail.
- Is an excellent communicator with strong customer care skills.
- Is a team player.
- Is experienced in animal care, ideally with a qualification but not essential, and have a love of working with dogs.
- Has availability on Saturdays and Sundays.

Basic salary £5,103 per annum, additional hours and travel time paid at an hourly rate of £12.60 per hour.
Option of additional sessions on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s.

The role includes working a minimum of 45 donation sessions per annum, these sessions will be on alternate Saturday’s and Sunday’s following our rota, additional Tuesday’s and Thursday’s may be available. Sessions are 8 hours in length, plus 1 additional hour allocated to pack/unpack the session kit; the basic salary is based on this. Flexibility is essential as start and finish times will be dependent upon the travel time required to get to and from the venues from Loughborough; this is paid in addition to the annual salary at an hourly rate of £12.60. Travel times range from 15 minutes to 2.5 hours. Due to the flexible start and finish times, it is desirable for applicants to live within a 1 hour drive of Loughborough.
