BVMS PhD FRCVS

Susan Dawson qualified as a veterinary surgeon from Glasgow in 1983. After several years in mixed practice Susan studied for a PhD and remained in academia for over 30 years. She was Dean of the vet school at Liverpool for 11 years, retiring in 2022.

Susan has been a council member at RCVS for over 10 years, was chair of education and primary qualifications subcommittee at RCVS, and has been a visitor on several accreditation visits. She has been a volunteer at BSAVA for many years and was President from 2016-17. She is currently a non-executive director at Pets at Home and Chair of the Volunteer Development Committee at The British Small Animal Veterinary Association. Susan has over 100 publications with research interests in infectious diseases particularly zoonotic infections and anti microbial resistance. Previous roles include membership of the Veterinary Products Committee and Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infections Committee, advisory committee’s to Defra, and the Department of Health respectively.

Susan and her husband John, who is also a vet, have three children, and now that they have moved away from home in gainful employment Susan has taken up golf and gardening.
