Karen graduated as a vet from Cambridge University in 2001. She spent a period in first opinion small animal practice before undertaking a rotating internship at Liverpool University and then working as an emergency out of hours vet. She started work as an Emergency and Critical Care resident at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in 2005 and has stayed there ever since. She is now a Professor in Transfusion, Emergency, and Critical Care Medicine and has a strong interest in blood banking and transfusion medicine, being Director of the Transfusion Medicine Service at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals at the RVC. When not working, Karen enjoys spending time with her family and her dog.
