One of our incredible supporters has recently reached the phenomenal milestone of volunteering at 100 of our donation sessions! Nick started volunteering with us in October 2019 and has just attended his 100th Pet Blood Bank session, an outstanding achievement.

Volunteers play a vital role at Pet Blood Bank, helping our teams to run our donation sessions and look after all our donors and their owners. Nick has attended donation sessions across the country and aims to volunteer in every one of our regions. His commitment and passion are contagious and our teams love having him working alongside them.

To mark the occasion, Nick told us, ‘I am really proud to make it to my 100th session and represent the charity. I’ve really enjoyed being at sessions and trying to help make things run smoothly for the team and the owners attending. I'm aware of the huge impact donations can have for the owners whose dogs are on the receiving side, and hopefully, I'm making the donors and their owners feel appreciated for coming along and taking part.’

One of the nicest things about being a volunteer with Pet Blood Bank is the feeling of community we have at our donation sessions. You really are a part of something, and your time and commitment make a real difference. It’s a volunteering role that offers hands on interaction with some fabulous dogs, and the opportunity to be a part of a team that is helping to save lives.

This is something that means a lot to Nick too.

I'm lucky to have met most of the teams across the country now and admire them all greatly for their work, their personalities, and the absolute care, respect, and attention they show to the dogs coming in, irrespective of if they manage to donate on the day or not. They have all really looked after me as well, especially after a difficult year personally, something I have really appreciated.’

Care is one of our core values so it’s lovely to know this is something that is reflected in the experience of our volunteers. It is also something volunteering with us involves, caring for all of our donors. Our volunteers are the first point of contact at our sessions and the delight all our fabulous donor dogs show when they see them is a testament to the incredible support they provide.

‘’I’d never realised just how many characters there would be as well (dogs and owners!) and it's lovely seeing the dogs coming in so happy to see us’’, Nick added.

Nick attended his 50th session only last November, and now with 100 down, he is already looking to his next milestone.

Having volunteers like Nick to support our donation sessions makes a big difference and we’re always looking for more passionate people to join our community. To find out more about what is involved and to register your interest, please visit our volunteering page.
