Canine blood donation sessions take place across the year at MSK Vets. If your dog meets the donation criteria and you live near this practice, please register for a session.

We’re really sorry, dogs who have received a transfusion are unable to become blood donors. This is because they may have developed antibodies in their blood that could cause a serious reaction if that blood was donated and given to another dog. We understand that owners whose dogs have received a transfusion often want to give back so there are plenty of other ways you can help us!

We’re really sorry, only dogs who have never left the UK or Ireland can donate. This is because there are a number of blood borne diseases in dogs which are present in other countries but not yet prevalent in the UK. However, there are plenty of other ways you can help us!

Does your dog wear a prong collar? *

Yes

Please note that you will need to use a flat or round collar on the day of donation and for 14 days after donation. This is due to the high risk of rebleeding, bruising, or damage that the prongs could cause to the donation site on your dog’s neck. Our vet will check your dog's neck for inflammation as part of our pre-donation health check, if there are any signs of inflammation, your dog will be unable to donate.

The donation process involves your dog lying on their side while being held in place by our team. They must be able to lie happily and willingly during the donation. Do you think your dog will manage this? *
