To be a blood donor, your dog must be:
- Fit and healthy
- Between one and eight years old
- Weigh more than 25kg
- Have a good temperament
- Have never travelled abroad
- Not on any medication
If your dog meets the above criteria, you can register them for a future collection session.
Do dogs have blood types?
Just like humans, dogs have different blood types. The two groups we test for are DEA 1 Positive and DEA 1 Negative. We particularly need dogs that are more likely to have negative blood type to register with us as this type can be given to all dogs in an emergency. Find out about blood types in dogs and see what breeds are more likely to have negative blood type.
How else can I get involved?
If your dog does not meet our donor criteria, there are still lots of ways that you can get involved in helping us.
