We are absolutely over the moon that our very own Training and Induction Manager, Helen Rooney, was crowned Vet Nurse of the Year 2023 at the prestigious Petplan Veterinary Awards on 23 March.

From over 30,000 nominations for wonderful people who are doing incredible work across the country, Helen was recognised as the winner in the vet nurse category for her outstanding work at Pet Blood Bank and her contribution to the veterinary community. The Petplan awards seek to find the UK’s top veterinary professionals who go above and beyond in their commitment and care for pets and owners, and we are so proud that one of our own team has been recognised as part of this.

Since joining Pet Blood Bank, Helen has transformed our Training department, both for our own team and for the wider veterinary community. She is constantly coming up with new ideas and really taking the charity to the next level. She pioneered the development of a brand new online training course on transfusion medicine for veterinary nurses which has seen people from across the UK as well as the world taking part. She has also created a huge library of online webinars featuring many experts on veterinary medicine so that everyone can access high quality education, something that helps vets to continue saving lives and advancing their skills in transfusion medicine.

We would like to say a huge congratulations to Helen for winning this award and to Petplan for recognising the diversity of roles that a veterinary nurse can do. At Pet Blood Bank, we all believe she is a very worthy winner and are delighted that she has been given this incredible award to reinforce the wonderful work she does to help save the lives of pets.
